ABBA, Michael Jackson, Boney M., Chic, Edwin Starr, Lio and Gloria Gaynor: the biggest stars of the 1970s and 1980s took turns appearing on the German TV programme “Musikladen”. Here’s a selection of these cult moments to let loose to classic disco hits!

A music series featuring Hit-Makers of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s with each episode highlighting a five-year period celebrating the biggest hits from that time. When Gabino's father returns home after a long absence, the two men awkwardly attempt to re-establish a relationship; but Gabino and his mother quickly tire of this man who has become a stranger to them and decide to kick him out, before realizing that he has already left. Gabino eventually tracks his father down and spends time with him in his rundown apartment, trying to figure out if there is any possibility for the two of them to ever truly communicate. Though Greatest Hits continues Pereda's exploration of his perennial themes of absence, masculinity and the difficulty of maintaining a family, it opens up a whole new set of aesthetic questions through a bold formal gambit: halfway through, the entire narrative reboots and starts from scratch with another actor playing one of the key characters, leading to different iterations of events already witnessed.

This one-hour special includes never-before-seen footage of Bam, Ryan Dunn and the rest of the CKY crew.

It is regularly suggested that Steps are one of the hardest-working groups in pop and the Gold DVD provides further evidence that such an assertion is almost certainly true. Since crashing into the Top 20 towards the end of 1997 with the line-dancing inspired "5,6,7,8" (the "in" craze at the time) the group have been constantly churning out top-notch tunes. Their videos have been as equally colourful, energetic and fun (apart from the video to "When I Said Goodbye" which was shot in black and white). With their carefully choreographed dance moves, flashy locations and outrageous hairstyles and outfits, the videos have always been a top priority for the group. This collection ranges from the video for their more recent cover of "Chain Reaction" deceptively filmed in one continuous take, to the beach fun of "5,6,7,8" and are excellently matched to the style of each song.

Now that we're more than two decades into the era in which pop artists' music videos are at least as important as the music itself (if not more so), it's easy to forget just how innovative and interesting the videos turned out by Eurythmics throughout the '80s were--at least until you take this 21-song anthology for a spin.
